John Clark
received a BA from the University of Rochester (New York), where he
studied theory, arranging, piano, and horn with Verne Reynolds. He
then went on to earn a Master of Music degree with honors from the New
England Conservatory of Music, where he studied composition and
improvisation with Jaki Byard, Ran Blake, and George Russell, and
French horn with James Stagliano, Thomas Newell, and Paul Ingraham.
Clark is also the recipient of numerous awards and grants, such as
ones from the International Horn Society, the National Endowment for
the Arts, and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS),
and was listed in the Down Beat critic's poll for four years in
a row.
Clark performs
regularly around the New York area with his own group, and also plays
with the Carnegie Hall Jazz Band, McCoy Tyner, Joe Lovano, and the
Aspen Wind Quintet. He is also working on putting together a French
horn group with Vincent Chancey, Tom Varner, and Arkady Schilkloper.
